On his second release for Bis records, Mr. Alvarez delivers a solid set that mixes son and timba in a perfect formula. Paying homage to casino style salsa, the title track instructs dancers how to move to this infectious form of dancing.
Once again he has reconstructed his band with new vocalists Aldo Miranda, Yasser Fernández and Engels Contreras, bringing new energy to this smoking group.

“Raíces” speaks of the origins of Cuban music with Joel Cuesta showcasing his skills on congas, rompiendo los cueros. On “Tumba, timbal y bongó”, Dorgeris gives a tantalizing piano solo before the percussion of Ulises Texidor, Luis Alvarez and Joel Cuesta demonstrate that no matter how many years have passed, Cuba is still king.

Something different is also very evident in this recording and that’s the trombone. Adalberto has incorporated the trombone to give the band a bit more power and that evident on the tour de force and soon to be classic, “Deja la mala noche.” This song is Timba at its best, with hooks on every turn, incorporating a bit of Paulito’s classic “La Habana” and therefore doubling the pleasure.

Adalberto Alvarez has evolved through the years but has always maintained the Son at the forefront, demonstrating you don’t have to sell out to make good music.
